Q: How old do I have to be go to the Chimney Academy? You must be 18 when the session begins.

Q: Do I have to get on the roof? Yes.

Q: Where are jobs available? We have had inquires from all over the country. We will put you in contact with established NCSG member companies in whatever region you are interested in to help you find employment right out of the Chimney Academy.

Q: Isn’t chimney sweeping only a wintertime job? No, chimney professionals stay busy through out the year cleaning, maintaining and repairing chimneys and fireplaces..


Q: Who are the professors? The professors are Chimney Safety Institute of America instructors with years of experience in the field who have been selected for their unique teaching abilities.

Of the 5000 chimney companies in the United States, many are constantly seeking qualified help. Why? Because their businesses are growing due to increased public demand for their services. Most potential employees in this industry have little or no training. When you attend the NCSG Chimney Academy™, you get a solid basic training for the industry and you will finish your course by taking the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® exam. The combination of professional certification and our training will make you a very appealing candidate for chimney companies across America.

Good Starting Pay
Because of your training you will be in an excellent position to expect a good starting wage.We anticipate that graduates with our recommendation may easily be able to earn a salary equivalent that of a college graduate.

Upgrade Your Skills
Completing your basic training is just the beginning. We will ask your employer to pay to send you back for advanced training once you have spent at least six months gaining experience in the field. Naturally, as your skills and knowledge improve, your wages are expected to increase as well.

Start Right Out Of High School
There are no lengthy waits, no long internships or apprenticeships to serve. You can enroll in the Chimney Academy right out of high school. Our courses are held every summer at the CSIA Technology Center near Indianapolis.

The NCSG Chimney Academy tuition is $1866, which includes six days of training on everything from chimney service to customer service. Tuition includes everything including lunch and dinner. Your only extra expenses will be lodging and your transportation to and from Plainfield. When you're accepted into the program, we will send you Successful Chimney Sweeping and the NFPA 211 to help you begin preparing for the training sessions. The CSIA National Chimney Sweep Training School is the foundation of the program.

You will learn:
• How to inspect and service chimney systems serving any fuel buring appliance.
• About residential heating appliances, including wood stoves, pellet stoves, inserts, factory-built fireplaces, central heaters and furnaces.
• NFPA 211 standards.
• Chimney performance problems: understanding draft and flow, diagnosing down drafts, flow reversals, inadequate flow, stack effects, updrafts, pressure effects and gauges.
• Health and safety equipment and methods.

You'll also learn sweeping and inspection of different chimney systems, operation of the necessary equipment, health and safety considerations and much more. It is step-by-step instruction in the codes, clearances, standards and practices of the chimney service trade. After completing the program, many will have earned the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® credential.

The course combines classroom training with hands-on experience, both at the CSIA Technology Center, and in real homes with real customers. Over 30 hours of classroom time is dedicated to gaining a working knowledge of the terminology, theory, tools, systems, processes and concerns of the chimney service trade. In addition to classroom training, hands-on programs are also held each evening at the Technology Center to provide an opportunity to practice using the tools of the trade and become familiar with different chimney systems.
